STDEV.S()

Estimates standard deviation based on a sample.

STDEV.S(number1, [number2], ...)

STDEV.S measures how spread out a set of values is around their average, using the sample formula that divides by (n-1) instead of n. Use it when your numbers are a sample drawn from a larger population, which is the most common case in real analysis.

STDEV.S replaces the older STDEV function; both compute the same sample-based formula, but STDEV.S is the name Microsoft now recommends. Use STDEV.P instead if your data represents the entire population, not a sample of it.

Text, logical values, and blank cells within a range are ignored; a data set with fewer than two numeric values returns a #DIV/0! error, since sample standard deviation is undefined for a single point.

Additional numbers, cells, or ranges, up to 255 total.
