TIME()

Date & Time

Combines separate hour, minute, and second numbers into a single time value.

TIME(hour, minute, second)

TIME builds a time-of-day value from three numbers, returning the serial fraction Excel uses internally to represent time (where noon, 12:00 PM, is 0.5, a quarter of the way through a 24-hour day is 0.25, and so on).

hour must be 0-23 for a normal time of day; values 24 and above wrap into the next day's hours when combined with a date. minute and second values above 59 roll over into the next unit automatically, so TIME(10,90,0) becomes 11:30 AM.

The cell showing a TIME result needs a time number format to display as a clock time instead of a decimal; the underlying value is the same either way.

Arguments

hour
The hour, 0 to 23 (or a number that rolls over into additional hours).
minute
The minute, 0 to 59 (or a number that rolls over into additional hours).
second
The second, 0 to 59 (or a number that rolls over into additional minutes).

Examples

=TIME(12,0,0)
12:00 PM

Noon, stored internally as the decimal value 0.5.

=TIME(18,30,0)
6:30 PM

Six-thirty in the evening, stored as 0.770833.
