These terms cover your use of excelback.com. Using the site means you accept them. They are written to be read rather than to be survived, so they are shorter than you might expect — reading anything on the site, including every ebook, never requires an account; downloading an ebook does. There is no subscription to cancel, and the only data of yours we might hold is the name, email and photo Google gives us when you sign in at/account.
What this site is
excelback.com is an independent Excel reference: a function library, articles and tutorials, a curated directory of other people's resources, and a few free tools. The aim is to put everything about Microsoft Excel in one place.
It is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to Microsoft. See copyright and trademarks.
Using the content
You may, without asking us:
- Read, print and save pages for your own use, at work or at home.
- Use any formula, technique or example from this site in your own workbooks, including commercial ones, with no attribution and no licence fee.
- Link to any page here. Deep links are welcome; you do not need permission to link.
- Quote a short passage with a credit and a link, the way you would quote any source.
Please do not:
- Republish substantial parts of the written content as your own, on a site, in a course, or in a book.
- Scrape the site at a volume that degrades it for other people, or re-host the function library or directory as a dataset.
- Use the content to train a model that reproduces it as a substitute for the site, or feed it into a service that presents our text as its own answer without attribution.
- Remove or obscure the affiliate labelling on any link if you mirror a page.
Formulas and techniques themselves are nobody's property — a SUMIFS pattern is not ours to license. The prose explaining them is what these restrictions cover.
The free tools
The formula builder, formula explainer and CSV cleaner run in your browser and are provided as conveniences, not as validated software. They come with no warranty at all.
Check what they produce before you rely on it. A generated formula can be syntactically correct and still answer the wrong question, and a cleaned CSV can lose a row you needed. Nothing here is a substitute for looking at the result.
Because the tools never upload anything, we cannot recover your work if something goes wrong. Keep your own copy of any file you put through the CSV cleaner. There is no version on a server for us to restore.
Links to other sites
The directory and course pages point at hundreds of third-party resources. We check links when we add them, and link rot, paywalls, price changes and outright disappearance all happen anyway. A link here is not a warranty about what is at the other end, and it is not a recommendation of that site's own terms, privacy practices or pricing.
Some outbound links may earn us a commission. Which ones, and what that does and does not change, is set out in the affiliate and advertising disclosure.
Not professional advice
Everything here is educational. Excel gets used for financial models, accounts, payroll, inventory, medical rotas and a great deal else, and none of what you read here is financial, accounting, tax, legal, medical or other professional advice. If a spreadsheet decision carries real consequences, have somebody qualified check it.
Availability
We make no promise that the site is available, complete, current or error-free. Pages get rewritten, resources get removed when they go stale, and the whole thing may be unreachable while it is being deployed or if the host has an outage. None of that entitles you to anything, because you paid nothing.
Limits of liability
The site is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of it — including a formula that produced a wrong number, a decision made on the strength of an article, data lost in a browser tool, or anything that happened on a site we linked to.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, and where that applies to you, the exclusions above apply only as far as they are permitted.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The date at the top of the page is the date they last did, and continuing to use the site after that is acceptance of the current version. There is no notification list, because we do not hold your email address.
